January Reading
Am I reading shorter books just to have something to put here?
An Informal Guide To Workwear, by A.W. Sylvester
Exactly what is says it is. It’s a nice book — and not it’s fault that I’ve been on the internet too long and crave darker, niche-r, more in-the-weeds clothes content.
Jesus’ Son, by Denis Johnson
This was a re-read. I’d been given a copy 10+ years ago by a friend and loved it so much I wanted to just type it out over and over.
Train Dreams, by Denis Johnson
Also beautiful. Less funny and more heartbreaking than Jesus’ Son. It’s only a skinny little book, but took me all month to get through because I could only bear being sad a few pages at a time.
James and The Giant Peach, by Roald Dahl
My mum bought my childhood copy over from Australia at Christmas time, so I re-read for probably the 10th time but definitely the first time since the mid 1990s. Roald Dahl hates spinster aunts so much.
The Private Patient, by P.D. James
I enjoy visiting a world where male homicide detectives notice that their wealthy aunt is wearing a “taupe cashmere pullover” when they visit her for Sunday lunch in her Marylebone mansion block flat.
