It’s hard to read man.
Meditations for Mortals: Four Weeks to Embrace Your Limitations and Make Time for What Counts, by Oliver Burkemann
Typing that entire title out, I feel embarrassed. It’s more interesting and less self-helpy than it sounds, though. His other book is great also.
Less: Stop Buying So Much Rubbish: How Having Fewer, Better Things Can Make Us Happier, by Patrick Grant
The title (that has two colons?!) explains it better than I will.
The Long Island Compromise, by Taffy Brodesser-Akner
A different Substack I follow linked to this article about how men have abandoned fiction. I didn’t read the bloody article! Too busy reading The Long Island Compromise and beating the stats!
The Spit Bucket, Issue 6
The Spit Bucket is a boxing fanzine published by my talented friends Lizzy and David Turner. Aside from some weird videos on Facebook, Lizzy and David are the only remaining proof that my spoken word poetry phase (2014-2016) wasn’t just a fever dream.
The Spit Bucket collects writing and art about boxing. It’s great because - whether you’re interested in the sport or not - the subject matter is evocative, the contributors are diverse and passionate and the people who make it are brilliant.
I read a hard copy because David pressed it into my hands when we intersected on Blackhorse Road a few weeks ago. But the free PDF for all issues is available here.

Two colons?! Haha!!
