Last week I watched this YouTube video where two guys participated in 30 viral health trends for 30 days.
I’m not really their target audience (it’s mostly a channel for car enthusiasts) but find the host incredibly likeable so watch his stuff when it pops up.
One of the trends they tried was the 100 Push Up Challenge, which just means doing 100 push ups every day.
Watching it I thought that - compared to daily cold plunges or a silent retreats - push ups were something I could achieve/fit into my routine.
The next day I pushed the toys and dog bed to the side, got down on the rug and gave it a go: five.
A number so low you have to spell it.
I reminded myself that this was okay because you have a full 24 hours to complete the 100 pushups (my total remained at five).
But then on Sunday I did 12.
On Monday I did 20.
On Tuesday I did 21.
Today (Wednesday) I have done 16 so far and it’s 8:48pm. If I want to continue to make forward progress I’ll have to squeeze in six more of the little cunts before bedtime.
Part of me hopes that - if I continue doing push ups every day - it will get easier and easier and my improvement will soon be exponential.
The rest of me is just grateful that I had something to write about this week.
